Sister Fez: Smear Tactics speaks to the overarching bonds of family and hampering of individuality. With stress on excessive loyalty, the pressure of obligation, and inducement to band together, the three sisters become a smear, partially obliterated and intertwined, as depicted on the embellished veil. Atop the fez  cap, each girl is clearly portrayed in separate sections of a yarmulke (a Jewish skullcap) to underscore their distinctiveness. The ornaments adorning the fez recall the headdresses of the Middle East.
